Walking into a well-organized closet often doesn’t get the credit it deserves, but its impact is profound. Imagine starting your day in an organized space with calming decor; it’s a little luxury that transforms morning chaos into serenity. It sets a positive tone for the day, a fact that’s hardly an understatement.
For the longest time, our master bedroom and closet told two different stories. The bedroom was a haven of tranquility, a serene escape from daily stress. The closet, on the other hand, was its opposite, neglected and chaotic.
We finally decided to give our closet the makeover it desperately needed. And let me tell you, it was worth every bit of effort.
My vision was clear, inspired by images of beautifully built custom cabinetry that looked like a million bucks—and cost about the same. Realistically, a complete DIY project was far too intensive for our schedules. So, we found a middle ground: hacking Ikea cabinets to suit our tastes and budget.
We started by assembling the drawers and cabinets from Ikea flat packs, following the instructions meticulously. Next, we painted the drawers to give them a custom look. Adding wooden trims to the cabinets and baseboards not only concealed the wiring but also provided a polished finish. We even cut out wood around the vent to ensure a well-rounded appearance.
With new flooring, in-cabinet lighting, baseboards, and trims in place, we transformed the neglected closet into a chic, organized space. It now mirrors the tranquility of our master bedroom and sets a calm, positive tone every morning.
In the end, our closet makeover was more than just a home improvement project; it was a transformation that brought harmony to our daily routine. The effort paid off in ways we couldn’t have imagined, turning a once chaotic space into a beautifully customized, functional haven.

Inspiration
We began by planning our closet and identifying the types of storage solutions we needed. Using the Ikea planner, we designed the storage unit to fit our specifications.
To give the space a chic look, we replaced the carpet flooring with hardwood. Next, we installed the cabinets, painted them, and added trims and baseboards to create a built-in look. We also installed cabinet lighting and concealed the cables and vents with wooden trims. Finally, we added wallpaper and a styled dressing table, completing the transformation of our closet into a beautifully functional space.
