Aarushi

A modern wooden console against a backlit recessed wall showcasing colorful Indian figurines on individual arched shelves.

A home is more than a shelter. It’s your silent companion of every breath, every dream, every beginning. It watches over you as you sleep, welcomes you with the morning breeze, and wraps around you like a soft memory. Just like the first ray of sunlight.

And that’s how Aarushi was born—a name that means “first light.” This home doesn’t just look beautiful—it feels like a sunrise.

Before the Magic Began…

This is where it all started. A plain, quiet wall in need of some serious love. When my friend asked me to design a wall that captured the first ray of sunlight, I knew I had to create something divine—something that felt warm, inviting, and full of soul. We had a vision. But turning that vision into reality? That took effort, laughter, problem-solving… and some really strong glue.

Swatch Tests & Paint Parties

Before diving in, we tested out our secret weapon: a faux limewash using regular eggshell paint. The trick? Mix 1 part paint with 2 parts water. We dipped a cotton cloth (hello, old T-shirt!) and began working in soft circular motions.

Swatch test—Passed!

Now it was time for the real deal.

Operation Limewash

We turned up the music, gathered the crew, and went all in. Dip, swirl, repeat. Little ones got in on the fun too—because who doesn’t love a DIY that ends in slightly questionable handprints and joyful mess?

It’s a simple, meditative process. But when done together, it becomes an experience. A memory.

We’ve covered everything you need to know about limewash walls here.

Floating Shelf Struggles

What’s a DIY without a little drama? Well we couldn’t install floating shelves directly, so we hacked our way around it. We painted a plywood sheet, attached it to the studs (while dodging the vent lines like pros), and created a custom backdrop for the shelves.

Then came the bendable trim. My favorite part. Except… it wouldn’t stick. After a mini meltdown, Gorilla Glue came to the rescue. And just like that, our LED-lit frame started coming to life.

With the LED strip in place, this wall completely transformed. Soft, ambient light filled the room—like it was always meant to be there. The arches gave our shelves just the right amount of charm, and the neutral palette kept things grounded.

From Blank to Beautiful

We installed the handmade dancing dolls—each full of color, story, and tradition. Every shelf became a tiny stage, and every corner felt like a celebration. Even the tiniest details were chosen with love. Like the dainty flowers peeking out of a vase or the Bharatanatyam figurine watching over the console—each piece plays a part in the story.

Aarushi isn’t just a wall. It’s a moment. A feeling. A beginning. Check out more about this floating shelves with arches.

The Soul of the Living Room

One wall got the art. The other got the heart.

We applied a gentle limewash finish to soften the texture and added a row of black-and-white family portraits framed in wood and topped with classic gold picture lights. It’s cozy. It’s personal. It tells the story of the people who live here.

These moments… captured and lit up… remind us that home isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection.

The Other Side of the Room

We also added the little figurine of two musicians sitting side by side that adds a charming and artistic touch to this cozy console vignette.
